The Big House
Historic Belmead in Powhatan, Virginia is an absolute beauty! Belmead used to be an agricultural school for African-American children, operated by the military. My client’s grandfather was in the military, living here full-time and raising his family on campus. Likewise, her mother’s memories of growing up at Belmead were equally as cherished by my client. Memories of tulips growing in the wagon and sparrows swooping in from the sky. Needless to say, Belmead is warmly regarded as home, or “The Big House.”
McKenzie did a FANTASTIC job on a beautiful mother’s day gift that I ordered for my mom! We are both so in love in what she did for my sweet momma! Her work is very unique and unlike any artist I’ve found (I searched long and hard to fine the perfect person). She is very easy to work with and really took the time to understand what exactly I was looking for in my final print. I highly recommend McKenzie to anyone wanting to capture the beauty and love of a place they hold near and dear to their hearts.

Today, Historic Belmead is abandoned, standing proud and tall in all its weathering. The Gothic Architecture has charm and power. I could stare at her for hours, imagining what it must be to have this building as my fortress… [Anyone else a fan of Outlander?].
