Northfield Estate offers an unforgettable experience and timeless, southern hospitality at its best. Nestled in the quiet countryside of Cumberland County, Virginia, Northfield Estate is a peaceful, secluded property that provides many gorgeous backdrops for a beautiful wedding ceremony and reception, as well as special events. Located only 50 miles from downtown Richmond and only 150 miles from Washington D.C., Northfield Estate covers more than 49 acres of timeless elegance – from a picturesque pond, a charming dairy barn, stunning 100 year old willow tree, and open fielded areas ideal for sunset views.

Floor Plan & Interior Design

Northfield Estate is owned and operated by veteran wedding professionals, Whitney & Robert Lipscomb. When Whitney & I met, I knew from the start this project was going to be amazing. Whitney is fearless, confident, and a visionary. This project was in her heart and it soon captured mine, too. We began by addressing the main house, making simple tweaks to the front exterior and dramatic design changes to the back exterior, my favorite being the double winding staircase.

Brides, this is how we make an entrance!

On the inside, our most dramatic transformation was in The Ballroom. Originally, The Ballroom was nothing more than a gigantic one-story great room with an oversized fireplace mantle and a built-in bar in the corner. We eliminated the built-in bar (don’t worry, we just made the bar mobile) and tore out the ceiling to extend as a two-story open air ballroom. We updated the windows to proportionally fit the new space and added three large crystal chandeliers.

Grooms, twirl your bride all night in this glamorous Ballroom!

In the Dining Room and Sitting Room, we cleaned it up, freshened the paint, added the chandeliers, and outfit the rooms in elegant furnishings.

Moms, relax and enjoy the on-site amenities.

The Barn at Northfield Estate

Northfield Estate was originally constructed in 1820 and served as one of the largest plantation homes in the county. The original home burned down at the time of the depression and the existing home was rebuilt on the original footprint later in the 1960’s. The property has changed hands a number of times in the last 30 years and it now resides on a mostly open 49 acre parcel of land backed by a aged dairy barn and picturesque pond.

The biggest endeavor, and definitely my personal favorite, is The Barn. The original plan was to retrofit the existing building into a separate venue, but upon further inspection, we learned the building could not be salvaged. We were all devastated, but as I’m sure you can imagine, that didn’t stop the Lipscomb’s! Demolition was scheduled and Whitney asked Monarch to design the new barn – the answer, YES YES YES!!! At Monarch, we’re obsessed with architecture and love it when we can put our Interior Architecture degree to use. We spent hours formulating a floor plan and an aesthetic design that carefully captured The Barn’s perfect bride.

Take a look at the final renderings, isn’t she perfect?!
